The Viking Ocean Rower Stirring the Chinese Dragon
Christian Havrehed is a UK educated Danish explorer, sinologist, and business strategist on a mission to improve Cross-Cultural Collaboration, a must-win battle for addressing the climate crisis and unlocking global potential.
To explore Cross-Cultural Collaboration difficulties head-on, Christian took on an audacious challenge: rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean with a Chinese People’s Liberation Army soldier that he barely knew. Their goal? To prove that the West and China can achieve anything together – as long as there is a shared vision and mutual trust. Both were mediocre rowers. One had never been out of sight of land.
They became the first people from their countries to row an ocean, and their unlikely friendship has endured for decades. Recently, they embarked on a row across the East China Sea to search for the legendary Elixir of Immortality.
Christian’s adventures are deeply aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. He deliberately pushes the boundaries of what the Chinese system can accept, creating precedents that help China open up, while shifting Western perception of China in the process.
Fluent in Mandarin, he has lived and worked more than 20 years in China.
Published in three languages with 20,000 books sold, Christian has been featured in several Chinese documentaries. A recent Podcast had more than one million listeners.
His keynotes help organizations break down cultural barriers, unlock team potential, and rethink ESG strategies for a more sustainable future.
Delivered with humour, humility, and humanity, Christian leaves audiences not only entertained but also inspired and equipped to take on new challenges.
